Healthy building materials for better indoor air quality

Tested according to internationally recognised indoor air quality standards

At Cânhamor, we believe that the materials used in a building should contribute not only to its technical performance, but also to indoor environmental quality and occupant well-being.

All building materials release Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) into the environment to a greater or lesser extent. Choosing materials with low and non-toxic emissions is therefore essential to promote better indoor air quality and create healthier living and working spaces.

Made from 100% natural materials, ECOblocks have undergone independent laboratory testing to assess VOC emissions, including formaldehyde and other substances associated with indoor air quality.

What are VOCs and why do they matter?

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are substances released by a wide range of building materials, finishes, paints, adhesives and furniture. Their presence in indoor air can influence the quality of the built environment and occupant comfort.

For this reason, international certification schemes such as AgBB, BREEAM and LEED v4.1 establish strict criteria for evaluating the emissions of materials used in buildings.

Selecting low-emission materials contributes to healthier, more sustainable buildings and supports compliance with the highest international indoor air quality standards.

Healthier indoor environments

ECOblocks have been assessed against BREEAM criteria for Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions.

The results demonstrated extremely low emission levels, not only meeting the certification requirements but achieving the highest possible rating within the BREEAM framework (Exemplary Level).

This performance confirms the suitability of ECOblocks for projects that prioritise indoor air quality, helping to create healthier, more comfortable and more sustainable environments.

Proven low emissions

ECOblocks have also been tested in accordance with AgBB and LEED v4.1 indoor air quality criteria.

The test results confirmed exceptionally low emission levels, well below the required thresholds, including for particularly significant VOCs such as formaldehyde. These findings reinforce Cânhamor’s commitment to providing natural, healthy and sustainable solutions for indoor environments.

Compliance with AgBB and LEED v4.1 criteria allows ECOblocks to be specified in projects seeking high standards of environmental performance and indoor air quality.

Looking to specify ECOblocks in your next project?

Indoor air quality starts with the choice of materials. With negligible VOC emissions and performance verified through independent testing, ECOblocks contribute to healthier, more comfortable and more sustainable buildings.
